McNeil Consumer Healthcare (the makers of Johnson & Johnson products) have issued a recall of certain lots of TYLENOL® 8 Hour, TYLENOL® Arthritis Pain, TYLENOL® upper respiratory products, BENADRYL®, SUDAFED PE®, and SINUTAB®.

The recall affects more than 45 million products, a spokeswoman for Johnson & Johnson said.

The latest recall affects certain lots of Tylenol, Benadryl and Sudafed products because of insufficient cleaning procedures, though the company does not believe that quality was impacted. The company also recalled certain lots of Rolaids tablets because they do not include certain labeling information.

Johnson & Johnson said these products were made at its McNeil Consumer Healthcare plant in Fort Washington, Pa., prior to April 2010, when production was suspended. Johnson & Johnson said it reviewed past production records and found cases where equipment cleaning procedures were insufficient, or cleaning wasn’t adequately documented.

The company said it will conduct further assessment at other of its manufacturing sites and will “not hesitate to take whatever steps are needed” to guarantee its products are of the highest quality standards, including “further market action if warranted,” according to a release.

Johnson & Johnson said it was recalling the products as a precautionary measure and not because of any reports of health problems. There hasn’t been any report of consumers becoming ill from this, and they do not need to worry about this new recall because the recall affects only the wholesale distribution of the product. The company said, adding that it was “very unlikely” that this harmed product quality.johnson-johnson-recalls-45-million-products
