Two weeks ago, Ted Williams was just another face on the corner. He was another one of those people that we often scoff at as we pass by, and occasionally, someone tosses a dollar in their direction. Ted Williams was a recovering alcoholic and drug addict, panhandling on the streets of Columbus, Ohio, hoping to make a buck so that he could provide himself with some food.
An employee of the Columbus Dispatch, a local newspaper, saw Williams doing this on several different occasions and decided to take a camera along for the haul. Williams was holding a sign claiming that he had a “God-given golden voice.” After speaking briefly with Williams and telling him that he would have to “work hard for his dollar,” the editor filmed Williams mimicking radio and television announcements. The video footage was shown on local television stations and quickly made its rounds on the internet, launching him into almost instant stardom.
Deals from various organizations and businesses began to pour in, offering Williams jobs and other tempting tidbits, even a house. But after a weekend scuffle with his daughter that nearly led to his arrest, Williams has decided to check himself into a private rehab facility.
Family members who recently appeared with Williams on the Dr. Phil show revealed that Williams has recently been drinking on a daily basis since his rise to fame.
