“Spider-Man” is the most expensive Broadway show ever ($65 million) but was forced to suspend two shows over safety concerns since Monday when an actor plunged nearly 30 feet from an elevated platform, breaking ribs and requiring surgery.

Christopher Tierney, 31, sustained a hairline skull fracture, four broken ribs, cracks in three lumbar vertebrae, broken bones below the elbow, a bruised lung, and internal bleeding from the fall

Tierney, who fell at least 20 feet in the Broadway production, started taking his first steps Friday following back surgery Tuesday at Bellevue Hospital, according to Tim Tierney.

A defective rope caused Tierneyto fall during a Dec. 20 preview of the troubled musical. This has been the third injury on set – and the show hasn’t even opened yet.

Tierney’s dad, Timothy, said his son was falling headfirst but managed to land on his right side in the basement below the stage at the Foxwoods Theater.

Timothy Tierney said doctors were “cautiously optimistic” that his son would eventually resume his performing career. Tierney’s family says he’s looking forward to rejoining the show that caused his serious injuries.christopher-tierney-back-surgery
