West Nile Virus was recently located in several areas across the United States and Canada. It is still a threat to North America and people should remain cautious when they go outdoors during the summer. Do not let still water sit near your house and empty all buckets, barrels and containers of rainwater so misquotes cannot breed.

West Nile virus has claimed it’s first human victim of the year, in East Baton Rouge Parish. The case was attested to have taken place on July 14th, according to the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals.

Children, the elderly and adults who are pregnant or nursing should wear bug spray, long sleeved shirts and long pants when they play outside in the early mornings and the evenings. Protect ears, head and neck from bugs by wearing a hat. Avoid going outside during the early mornings and late evenings when bugs are most likely to be out and about.

Remember to take all flu like symptoms seriously because it may be West Nile Virus. Practice safe hand washing and keep your hands away from your face to prevent spreading the West Nile Virus.
