The drug Avandia is again under scrutiny by the FDA. Avandia is an anti-diabetic drug which is known to have serious side effects and it is has become the subject of many lawsuits and controversies recently. In the FDA’s most recent report they claim that the drug is unsafe.

One of the most serious side effects of Avandia is it’s possible link to heart disease. Studies designed to prove that this link is not possible remain inconclusive. Although sales of Avandia have steadily declined significantly over the years, the drugs worldwide sales last year totaled over one billion dollars. There currently seems to be a debate within the FDA as to whether or not the use of Avandia could lead to serious fatal diseases like heart attacks and strokes. The FDA has pledged to continue working to acquire more knowledge about the drug in the future and they seem to have the best interests of the safety of public consumers in mind.

In the meantime Avandia continues to be globally scrutinized and the possibility of success in the future for this drug does not seem to be too likely. Avandia’s long struggle with scrutiny is far from over and most doctors should be hesitant to prescribe this drug for their patients because of the belief by the majority that their are fatal side effects. Avandia will eventually be withdrawn from the worldwide market completely and considered a miserable failure and then be forgotten about. safety-glaxos-avandia-drug-under-question
