Do you currently take the drug Zocor? If you do then you need to know about this warning. The FDA has issued a warning for patients who take high doses of the drug Zocor. Zocor is a drug that is prescribed to patients who suffer from high cholesterol. The drug was issued a warning because it can cause muscle injury which can lead to Rhabdomyolysis. This can lead to kidney disease, renal failure, and in some instances can prove fatal.

Zocor is also called Vytorin and Abbott Laboratories Simcor. If you have been prescribed eighty milligrams of simvastatin then you are more at risk than those patients who only are receiving twenty milligrams of simvastatin. The Food and Drug Administration decided to issue this warning based on findings that they received during the clinical trial phase, studies, and reports from doctors about patients with these occurrences.

If you take these medications then you may want to contact your doctor or pharmacist and see what they think you should do about these findings. They may prescribe a generic alternative for you. It is important to make sure that the medications you take are helping you and not harming you in the long run.

  1. Hello,
Wow, the FDA might even be ahead of the curve on this one. For the last year or so I have felt increasingly weak through out my body. This is following a quadruple bypass, so my heart has been funtioning about up to par. No one could tell me why I was losing strength, endurence(to any degree) and muscle mass and tone. The simplest task caused me to stop every other minute to rest. Finally I went over my blood tests to find I was over the upper range of creatine kinase. This in turn indicates muscle tissue breakdown occuring. Then, after searcing the web, behold I find it is a side effect of statins! Hopefully now that I know the cause of this prescription induced malaise, I can find something growing in the world around us. Two cadidates are curcumin and pomegranate.
