The NCAA Tournament selection committee announced their results on Sunday and the tournament has been set. The tournament is headlined by the Kansas Jayhawks who were granted the #1 seed in the Midwest region as well as the number one overall seeds. The other #1 seeds were the Kentucky Wildcats, Duke Blue Devils, and the Syracuse Orangemen. Duke surprised many basketball fans as they stole #3 overall seed following their ACC conference championship.
The conference with the most teams invited was the Big East. The Big East had 8 schools invited overall, which included one number one seed, two number two seeds, and two number three seeds. On the other hand, the Pac 10 conference only had two teams invited.
Like most years, there were several schools who felt snubbed by the selection committee. This year’s two largest snubs were the Virginia Tech Hokies and Illinois Fighting Illini. The Hokies seem to have been kept out of the tournament because they played a weak conference schedule. The Illini, with a record of just 19-14, did not have quite the resume necessary to make the tournament.
Other notable schools who were not invited to this year’s tournament include the University of Arizona and the University of North Carolina.
