Recently, there have been questions as to whether or not chocolate can lower the risk of a stroke. With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, this question has only been highlighted more. Can chocolate really lower the odds of having a stroke?

Well, some researchers have found that it does lower the risk. Eating a little bit each week has been found to be beneficial and this includes in the prevention of a stroke.

Chocolate, particularly dark chocolate, is rich in antioxidants. These antioxidants are known as flavanoids and are what causes the health benefits. Not only in chocolate, but they can also be found in vegetables, red wine and green tea.

Studies on this dark chocolate have found benefits with blood pressure, blood flow, and even lipid levels. All of which happen to be factors that are linked to stroke risks.

More studies still need to be conducted. At this point though, cocoa has shown to be a heart-helper. This is good news for Godiva, a major chocolate brand. With Valentines Day coming tomorrow, it’s their busiest time of the year. So, while you’re enjoying your chocolate, you may be helping your heart as well as reducing the risk of a stroke.
