In an effort to help the fight against type 2 diabetes, Oprah will dedicate her show to the subject today. In what seems to be becoming an epidemic, more and more Americans are diabetic.
Many believe that diabetes has a direct connection to weight problems, and the focus of the program will be weight control and diabetes prevention. Oprah is encouraging everyone to go to Walgreens this Friday for a free blood glucose test. This test, which gives immediate results, will be able to show if you are susceptible to the disease.
Oprah’s show will feature her favorite health professionals Dr. Oz and Bob Greene.
Most Americans live within a short distance of a Walgreens, stated a spokesman for the pharmacy. People will be there, on hand ready to give the tests.
If left untreated, diabetes can lead to heart disease, blindness and many other diseases. If caught at an early stage, people can learn to change their lifestyles to compensate for the diabetes.
As many as 60% of Americans are considered overweight right now, with such a large number at risk, early diagnosis is crucial. Oprah will dedicate further shows to the subject, but currently wants to promote the free testing being offered by Walgreen’s as a way to “get the ball rolling”.
