Chimp Attack Victim Having Trouble getting Transplant A victim of a brutal attack by a chimpanzee will not get a face transplant in Cleveland. Charla Nash was attacked by Travis, a 200 lb chimpanzee. Her face and hands were left severely disfigured and badly damaged. Charla Nash has been staying at the Cleveland Clinic where they performed the first face transplant in the nation. Bill Monaco, Charla’s attorney and spokes person said the clinic has now told Charla they can not perform the face transplant surgery.

the hospital said in a statement, “Due to the complexity of her injuries, the medical team has concluded she is not a candidate for transplantation at this time.”

Nash’s family is looking to alternative methods or possibly an alternative site for the surgery. The family remains hopeful that they can find a donor. With the extreme damage that has been done a complete face transplant is in order.

In November, Charla went on the “Oprah Winfrey” show to talk about the attack and to reveal her face for the first time to the public. Nash’s eyes had to be removed following the attack. She also lost some of her scalp and jawbone.
