California Recalls 864,000 pounds of ground beef! Once again we are seeing another food recall! This time the state of California has recalled 864,000 pounds of ground beef due to possible E Coli contamination.

The state department of agriculture food safety and inspection service stated that there have been no illnesses reported from tainted meat. The company that was affected by the recall is the southern California based Hunington Meat Packing Company. Hunington Meat Packing Company also operates the Hunington, El Rancho and Imperial Meat brands. Based out of Montebello California, the recalled meat was distributed to restaurants, hotels and other distribution centers around the state from February 19th and May 15th 2008 as well as January 5th through 15th of 2010.

The possible problems were discovered during a food safety assessment, and the recall was put into play. The Hunington Meat Packing Company has not released a statement at this time. It is almost impossible to say if any of the recalled ground beef actually made it on to the plates of consumers.

E Coli is a potentially life threatening germ that can cause nausea, dehydration, bloody diarrhea and kidney failure. It is often most deadly when it affects young children as well as the elderly and those with lowered immune systems.
