According to a new medical study, drugs primarily to build up bones can be used to help prevent breast cancer. Two of these bone building drugs are called Fosamax and Actonel.
The scientific study was conducted by Dr. Rowan Chlebowski. He wanted to see if there were unknown side effects and risks from estrogen and progestin pills after a woman has entered menopause.
The study involved administering medications to over one hundred and fifty thousand women. Of these women, about twenty two hundred took the prescription drug Fosamax. After several years, the study found that there were thirty one percent fewer cases of breast cancer in these women.
For many years, researchers and scientists have been trying to find the right drugs and medications that will help to prevent cancer. The researchers are hesitant to say that the drugs that they tested will actually prevent breast cancer. The researchers are hopefully and say that they will have a precise answer in twelve to twenty four months.
If this study is correct then women who have risk factors for breast cancer but are healthy might be able to take the drug. This medical discovery might help researchers to eventually find a vaccine or drug to prevent breast cancer and other forms of cancer.
