Beer, Exercise and Coffee Can Help Protect Against Prostate Cancer

According to three new studies, the benefits of coffee, beer and exercise can help protect you against prostate cancer. Recently at the “American Association for Cancer Research Frontiers in Cancer Prevention Research Conference”, new studies revealed that beer, exercise and coffee may actually help protect men from prostate cancer.

Study results showed that the men who drank coffee fared better than those who did not. Research showed that drinking coffee can reduce the risk of contracting advanced prostate cancer. Drinking six or more cups of coffee a day lowered the risk of being diagnosed with prostate cancer by 19%.

Another study revealed a link between drinking beer and preventing prostate cancer. Preliminary evidence suggests xanthohumol, a natural compound found in hops, can block testosterone, which plays a key role in the development of prostate cancer. This compound is known to help prevent testosterone effects that impact cancer cells in the human body.

The third study showed that men who engaged in physical activities equivalent to jogging, biking, swimming or playing tennis for about a half-hour per week - had a 35 percent lower risk of death from any cause and a modest 22 percent reduction in risk of death from prostate cancer.

“We saw benefits at very attainable levels of activity. We recommend that men with prostate cancer do some type of physical activity for their overall health, even if it is a small amount, such as 15 minutes of activity per day of walking, jogging, biking, or mild gardening. Vigorous activity may be especially beneficial for prostate cancer, as well as overall health”, shared Dr. Kenfield.

This study was conducted by Stacey A. Kenfield, a research associate at the Harvard School of Public Health.
