Coffee, Beer and Exercise Help Lower Risk of Prostate Cancer Risk.Every year prostate cancer affects nearly 200,000 men in the United States alone and is considered to be the second deadliest form of cancer for men behind lung cancer. This has led to many different forms of research being conducted as medical professionals search for ways to eliminate if not reduce the overall number of cases that are reported every year. As a result, a series of three different research studies were conducted to determine what actions could be taken to reduce the risk factors for those who are most susceptible to the disease.

In three different studies conducted between Harvard University and the German Cancer Research Center found that drinking one extra bottle of beer per day, drinking one cup of coffee or exercising vigorously a total of three hours per week can significantly reduce the chances of being affected by condition.

The different studies showed declines in prostate cancer of 22% and 60%.

A drug called xanthohumol is found in both beer and coffee. This is a compound that is used with other medications to treat the disease.

Study leader Dr Clarissa Gerhausa, from the German Cancer Research Centre in Heidelberg, said: “We hope that one day we can demonstrate that xanthohumol prevents prostate cancer development, first in animal models and then in humans, but we are just at the beginning.”

Xanthohumol is a powerful antioxidant, known to have anti-cancer properties. It is also found in fruits and spices.
