Actor, artist and filmmaker Dennis Hopper has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. It has been reported that Hooper is being treated through a “special program” at the University of Southern California.
Hopper’s manager said he has canceled all travel plans, so he can devote himself to his medical treatment.
Hopper was scheduled to fly to Australia next week to appear at his exhibition of art and photography called “Dennis Hopper and the New Hollywood”, which is being displayed at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image.
Hopper fell ill while promoting his new television show, ‘Crash’ based on the 2004 Oscar winning movie. No further information has been given.
According to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, prostate cancer is the most common non-skin cancer in the U.S. and affects 1 in 6 men. Just this year, there will be 192,280 cases diagnoses and 27,360 deaths.
Throughout his great career, Hopper has had Oscar nominations for the films Easy Rider and Hoosiers. Other notable movie credits include Apocalypse Now and Blue Velvet.
His manager Sam Maydew said: “We’re hoping for the best.”
