Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius says the government health insurance plan proposed by the Obama administration would increase competition and drive down costs.

Obama wants Congress to approve his health care reform proposals by the end of the year in order to fulfill one his key campaign promises — providing health care to the 46 million Americans, some 15 percent of the population, who currently have no medical coverage whatsoever.

Kathleen Sebelius said in an interview Sunday on U.S. television CNN’s State of the Union the administration’s plan would not replace private health insurance providers. She said it would strengthen the marketplace and give more options to people living in areas where private insurers have no competition.

“Most Americans understand that choice and competition is what we want,” Ms. Sebelius said in an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “You can write the rules for a level playing field. The president does not want to dismantle privately owned planned…. He wants to strengthen the marketplace. The costs are crushing us. It’s hurting families. Our businesses are less competitive. We can’t continue on this pathway,”

The Obama plan calls for the creation of membership-based insurance cooperatives using government help. The co-ops, however, would not be run by the government.

Together with a wide range of cost-cutting plans, as expected, the promising stem cell research might downsize health care spending dramatically in the feasible future, I think.

The important thing for everyone to remember, in my opinion, is that “health coverage” and “health insurance” are not the same as “health care”.

Insurance companies are very profitable businesses. Premiums are high and benefits are low. That is the margin they get rich on. “Health insurance” for everyone, mandated by the Federal government is a blessing for these insurance companies. Just like the credit card companies, the insurance companies are not your friend.

This country does not have a health care crisis. It has a “who’s going to pay for this” crisis?

If you’re sick and your poor choices cause you to be sick 8 times a year, you should pay for it.
