The legendary icon of the 1970’s, Farrah Fawcett appears to be losing her battle with cancer. The popular star that once graced the cover of the best selling poster in history is currently in a bed ridden state as the ravages of a rare form of anal cancer have spread to her liver.

Currently, she is being fed via and IV tube in her arm and it appears the cancer is in its final stages and her end is near. Fawcett was diagnoses with cancer in 2006 and had fought the onset of the disease with her doctors for the past three years. However, the ability to permanently send the cancer into remission has proven impossible.

Currently, doctors have stated that Fawcett’s cancer is not treatable and that she is in the terminal stage. She is believed to have anywhere from several weeks to perhaps six months to live. The condition is simply untreatable and all that can be done now is to make her as comfortable as possible.

Fawcett recently appeared in a documentary that detailed her condition. Airing on NBC, the documentary drew an audience of 9 million people moved by her plight, many of whom were fans of her growing up in the 1970′s.

Fawcett’s partner of many years, Ryan O’Neal, has remained by her side as her condition enters the final and fatal stages.

  1. Good Morning:

I have the same ‘squamous cell carcinoma’ that ?Farrah has-diagnosed -my regular Dallas Dr. didn’t catch 9it ‘but knew it’ -was treating me forsomething else and mentioned to him early part of 2006 that the left tonsilo was 2-3 x larger than often. He commented he was givn me antiobiodics for another health issue and not be that concerned about it and ignored it (?)-latter part of 2006 ended up in emergency at Medical City Hosp of Dallas and situation of tonsil was: Stage 3. Am in Advertising – or was-not working too weak -also commercial real estate in Houston when lived in Houston -latter 80′s-of course, we know ‘what happened to our economy at that time. Burned critically at CTCA – of course they would never admit it. Pulled $ out of Life Ins.; since I was terminal and went to Oasis of Hope Dec for 2 weeks and 2 weeks in February – cancer is spreading – now reached brain tissue-includes ear as well. Definitely pushing alternative and have been after CTca but my ‘strength level’ is unreal – NONE. Single now and live in Dallas, TX;. but am getting some neighbors to help and Hillcrest Church now getting involved. I support Farrah and understand how she feels – trying to find a good attorney in Dallas as well. Would love to meet her. Believe it or not have met and talked w/Robert Wagner in Houston and Jerry Lewis :) Would be great if I could get some future air running for the past documentary – was able to line up one for recording but I ‘messed’ up and the docomentary didn’t record.; If you can provide me a website that wouold have this recording whereby I could record or get a copy – that would be great. Thank you and God Bless . Sandie Powers 12239 Center Court Dr, Dallas TX 75243

  3. My thoughts and prayers go out to Farrah and her family. I have read many of the stories and interviews involving her situation and my heart weeps for her. I’m a woman battling breast cancer, and my first thought, after the shock of hearing the diagnosis was, ‘get this thing out of me.’ The surgery couldn’t have happened soon enough and fortunately mine was caught very early. I still need to finish chemo and then radiation, and probably be on drugs for a few years, but my prognosis is excellent. Unfortunately, Farrah decided not to have surgery or follow standard of care markers for her type of cancer, which would have required removal of her bowel and some of her lower intestine, resulting in having to wear a colostomy bag for the rest of her life. She chose it treated in alternative ways. That was her choice. If nothing else, I hope her situation helps to open the eyes of other cancer patients. It is far from glamorous, but sometimes having part of your body cut out of you might be the only solution.

  4. Actually ,Ms. Fawcett did have her tumors removed surgically when they were diagnosed . she then sought , not completely alternative but complimentary care with drugs not approved by the fda. She followed the standard of care for her cancer, with with her doctor here and in Germany.
” there are currently three main treatments for anal cancer: surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy. Fawcett has already used a combination of the three: in October 2006 she had surgery to remove the tumor, followed by a six-week course of chemotherapy and radiation in November and December. After the cancer returned, she reportedly sought alternative therapy in Germany, but she hasn’t disclosed details of the treatment”
“She went through chemotherapy treatments and radiation in late 2006. She was declared cancer-free in February; but, after a routine checkup this May, the 60-year-old learned the cancer had returned.”
I heartily assert that we all have a right to direct our own medical care, with our doctors as advisors and our conscience (or whatever you call your higher power)as a guide.

  5. My brother is currently suffering from a type of cancer that is supposedly “easily” treatable. He’s gone thru chemo, radiation and stem cell transplant. All were short term fixes. Now we look for a bone marrow match – please God. My father died of cancer in July and my uncle has has recurrent throat cancer. Cancer is indeed a terrorist and I pray I don’t get it. I feel positively awful for sweet Farrah. Her sweet and endearing personality surpass even her impossible beauty. Seriously, have you ever seen a more physically beautiful woman? Just absolutely fantastic looking. But all of our beauty fades. One thing that will not fade is the love the world has for sweet, sweet Farrah. We love you, Farrah Fawcett. If you get to Heaven before I do, give our Savior Jesus Christ a hug and kiss for me. I know you will. You are extremely affectionate. Rest now beautiful Farrah. Remember how loved are.

  6. Farrah has been so inspiring and gallant as she has faced her cancer. She has been an active participant in her care and committed to her own healing. Her outcome is tragic.
I had a handicapped brother who had rectal cancer and went through the radical and aggressive treatments posed: the colostomy, the chemo the radiation and ultimately a total abdominal exenteration (where they removed most of the organs of his lower abdomen). This was done as a “cure” according to the doctors. His pre-existing handicap kept him from having fine motor dexterity need to manage the bags . . his outcome was just the same, soon after he healed his cure did not take and he had a recurrance then it spread to the liver and he had a spot on his lung.
I wonder if his quality of life might have been better without the treatments. And I certainly think Farrah made the most active, involved decisions in her own care. She deserves a gentle, dignified passing with alot of love about her.

  7. Houston…You can view Farrah’s Story at Hulu.com in it’s entirity.
