“Farrah’s Story,” the documentary detailing Fawcett’s battle with cancer, drew almost 9 million viewers this week. The documentary showed the 62-year-old actress’s treatment and hopes for recovery from anal cancer that has spread to her liver. Fawcett was diagnosed with the disease in September of 2006.
The video diary that made up “Farrah’s Story” was originally only for private viewing by Fawcett’s family and friends. Fawcett decided to share the videos with the public when she realized that the story could inspire thousands.
Fawcett was recently visited by her son, Redmond O’Neal, who was allowed out of his rehabilitation unit for a second visit to his mother. O’Neal is currently in a year-long rehabilitation program at a correctional facility in Los Angeles to have two drug charges removed from his record. O’Neal was released to see Fawcett on the day her documentary aired.
Now that the cancer has spread to Fawcett’s liver she may not have much longer. She was told in 2007 that her cancer had gone into remission. It returned only months later. The documentary showed an up-close look at the side effects cancer patients go through with chemotherapy treatments and medications. Fawcett is now on an IV for nourishment and is nearing the end of her treatment options.
