After a a prolonged battle with anal cancer over the past two years, Charlie’s Angels actress Farrah Fawcett is reported to be near death.
Following her admittance to a Los Angeles hospital, Fawcett is now on intravenous. She is said to be unconscious while in a critical yet stable condition.
“She’s a fighter,” a friend of Fawcett’s said, “but we get the sense that she knows the end is coming. But we’re still praying for a miracle.”
All of this came at a time when NBC was set to air “Farrah’s Story,” a documentary chronicling Fawcett’s struggle with cancer.
Despite an ongoing legal battle over the documentary, NBC was undeterred from airing it on its scheduled release date of May 15.
Fawcett herself recently said that she wasn’t sure that her real-life death drama would ever be seen. “But at some point,” she said, “the footage took on a life of its own and dictated that it be seen.”
“It’s a gruesome story, it’s a terrible story,” said Fawcett’s longtime lover Ryan O’Neal in regards to the documentary, “but sometimes out of terrible stories come a light and a hope.”
Fawcett has not won an Emmy for acting in television series like “Charlie’s Angels” or critically acclaimed TV movies such as “The Burning Bed,” however “Farrah’s Story” may contend at the Emmy Awards as either outstanding nonfiction special or for the juried award for exceptional merit in nonfiction film making.
As the sun seems to be disappearing beneath the horizon of Fawcett’s life, the world marvels at a woman who continues to be a pop-culture icon even decades after her heyday.
