The 11th annual ‘Fittest/Fattest Cities’ revealed that Salt Lake City was the fittest city with Colorado Springs in second place. Minneapolis came behind in third. Miami was dubbed the fattest city in the US.

Men’s Fitness magaizine conducts an annual survey to compare US cities and find which have the poorest health due to weight. Residents are polled about their exercise routines and daily eating habits.

Minneapolis scored well because of an example set by their mayor, R.T. Rybak. He exercises up to 5 days a week and participates in public fitness events. This sets an example for Minneapolis residents and motivates them to be more active. Residents there are shown to watch little television and have excellent access to health clubs, basketball and tennis courts and residents also freely bike and jog. Surveys showed that the Minnesota city has the third lowest number of doughnut shops per capita. While Minneapolis has a low number of doughnut chains, they have a high percentage of ice cream shops with 38% more than most cities.

Miami scored low points because of the saturation of fast food restaurants. Miami has nearly three times the number of fast food restaurants as other cities. 61.5% of its residents were found to have risks of weight-related health problems due to their size.
