How many people currently reside under your roof? According to a new report by the Pew Research Center, more people are now living with family members from many generations in their home. The report found that forty nine million people now live in multi-generational homes. This is very interesting and might be caused by the down economy.

Since 1980, the number of people living in a multi-generational home has increased by thirty three percent. This could be due to economic reasons, illnesses, or the need for housing by additional family members. Many parents like having grandparents and great parents around them because they want their children to grow up with a good sense of family.

Approximately twenty percent of adults from the age of twenty five to thirty four and those over sixty five live with two generational adults. These are usually a parent or grandparent. Between 2007 and 2008, the number of people in this circumstance increased by 2.6 million people. Older and younger adults can benefit a lot from living together. Older adults like the company and usually are more active around younger adults than older adults. Younger adults can learn valuable life lessons from older adults and help them become productive members of society and good spouses and parents.
